Tourists traveling to the Dominican Republic for vacation have been warned that since the beginning of 2022 the “simplified” rule of passports will lose force and the old rule will return, according to which a tourist’s passport must be valid for six months from the date of entry into the country.
Recall that this spring, under the Resolution of the General Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Dominican Republic No. DGM-04-2021 dated April 30, 2021 and Memorandum No. 0008425 dated May 26, 2021, up to and including December 31, 2021, foreign nationals were allowed to enter the Dominican Republic for tourism purposes with a passport valid for the duration of their stay in and at the time of departure from the country.
As of December 31, 2021, the rule on entry into the Dominican Republic for the purpose of tourism returns with respect to the validity of the passport. To date, no changes or additions to this Migration Service Ordinance have been received. Therefore, as of January 1, 2022, the Ordinance will take effect and the rule of passport validity of 6 months from the date of entry will return.
